A girl in my creative writing class said this in response to a story we read about witnessing intimate partner violence and it really fucked with my head because I’ve never, ever, ever, thought of it that way.
"Not a single word."

the weirdest thing about false accusations is that I’ve never named my rapists, never will and yet without fail every time I talk about rape someone inevitably accuses me of trying to ruin some poor, innocent man’s life.
and by weirdest I mean the reason that people talk so much about “false claims” is because they really really hate rape victims and want us to shut up and never ever feel like we’re safe to talk.
the people that talk about false rape claims and try to shut women up are rapists and they need a culture of silence and shame so they aren’t exposed as a rapist and become publicly known for who they are.
Given the number of women who are raped and never report it due to fear, a culture of shame and intimidation, and the proportionally small number of men who are convicted of rape, its very clear that ‘false’ accusations are not the problem.
Men are the problem. Men that rape are the problem. Men that intimidate women into silence are the problem. Men that create a hostile environment for women and scoff at sexual violence are the problem. Men that benefit from rape culture are the problem. Men that point out the tiny proportion of allegations that are withdrawn or don’t meet the criteria for conviction (established by men, of course) are definitely the problem.
If a woman has the guts to go to the police and deal with the plethora of shit they put victims through to make a report, she was raped.
